Updating Canadian Payroll to 2014 tax tables

You will need to kick everyone out of Windward. Do a backup. Then, update to the latest System Five version on the server. Then, update System Five on the computer which has Payroll installed. This will pull down the latest tables for System Five and for Payroll. Restart System Five as many time as necessary to complete any updates that auto-start when you start Windward. Then, start Windward Payroll. The program should automatically sense that you have new tax tables, and ask to do an update The version you are looking for System Five is 6.0.82.74 or later; and 1.0.18.14 for Payroll.

1. Check your current Payroll version:

2. It is out of date:

3. Quit Payroll. Ask everyone to get out of System Five. Start System Five. See if anyone is still logged in:

4. Continue past the FIRST warning screen:

5. Then, STOP. As users log out, their names will disappear until all names are gone:

6. Quit the File Check:

7. Check the Help > About menu:

8. Look where your data is in the “Shared Directory”:


9. Quit System Five and backup the “Data” folder indicated above.


10.Restart System Five. Go into Utilities menu > Windward System Five FTP Update:

11. Click Download when ready:

12. Click Next when ready. Fill in your email address if you want Windward to email you occasionally about System Five updates:

13.Click Yes if you did not enter an email address:

14. See that Windward Payroll is checked. If it not there, you will see it when you do the FTP Update on a computer that has Windward Payroll installed. Click Next:

15. You may have Polling installed, which requires a special upgrade process: http://mywindward.wws5.com/selfhelp/helpfile/systemfive/index.html?polupdatings5poll.htm Probably Abort and call tech support or know what you’re doing…

16. Otherwise, click Yes to continue:

It may take a while to download the updates.

17. I have seen FTP Updates end in failure if wwAnywhere or wwAnywhereMonitor was running in the Task List. You can kill this process before continuing:

18. Click Next to Continue:

19. You may have many files being updated. Here is a screenshot of the Payroll being updated:

20. It will probably do an additional backup of the data:

21. Hopefully the screen will end with a success:

22. As noted above, I have seen it end in failure if wwAnywhere or wwAnywhereMonitor was running in the Task List. You can kill this process, and then click Back and try the Update again.

23. Start; Quit; and Restart System Five as many time as necessary to complete any updates that auto-start when you start Windward.


People can now login and FTP Update their System Five programs to the latest version as well.


24. Quit System Five, and then start Windward Payroll. The program should automatically sense that you have new tax tables, and ask to do an update:

25. Click Start Update, which should end in… click OK:

26. If the update didn’t auto-start with Payroll, see if you can start it manually with the System Settings button > Update Payroll Tables menu:

27. When you are done, you should have the latest tax tables with the System Settings button > About Payroll menu:

28. You will now have Payroll Tax Version v2014-01-01:
